We are officially a minivan family. To be honest, I never thought I'd say those words! 1st of all, I have hated the look of minivans my whole life and when my hubby would bring up cars I would defiantly say...we will NEVER get a minivan. 2nd of all, I can't believe I have enough kids to have a minivan. Like WHAT?! I'm having my 3rd child in a few weeks?! Didn't I just graduate from high school? Oh, that was 10 years ago. I officially feel old. 3rdly I am soooo happy we chose to get the swiss army knife of cars! I've only been driving it for a week and it has dramatically enhanced my life. I'm a BELIEVER.
I don't know about you, but my whole life I've associated minivans with not being sexy or cool. Which is probably my reason for not liking the look of them. My inner hatred towards minivans probably started when I was pregnant with my first child. I babysat a family and drove around a minivan. It was then and there that I decided....I will NEVER have a minivan....I just felt soooo momish and old and weird. BUT I didn't have kids yet, so I was also naive and selfish.
Time is weird, isn't it odd that I still feel like I'm newly graduated from high school, even though I KNOW I graduated 10 years ago? Something that REALLY makes me feel old is that I told my babysitter that texting came out when I was in high school....she looked at me like I was ancient. You know what, I'm still in my 20's (28 to be exact), so I consider myself young. But it is a very rude awakening when you realize your 13 year old babysitter was 3 years old when you graduated from high school. No wonder she thinks I'm ancient. Time to embrace the fact that I'm pregnant with my 3rd child. I officially feel like a mom. This past mothers day I understood the real meaning of having a day off. It was heaven.
Our van is SERIOUSLY a swiss army knife. I LOVE it. There is a DVD player in it, so hubby and I have enjoyed 4 awesome rides to and from Kaysville with silence! No screaming children! Really? quality of life WAY better. Obviously there can be DVD players in other cars too, ohh I'm just getting started. You know the sunglasses holder up by the rearview mirror? There's a little mirror on that that you can prop down to watch the kids...it's awesome. There are little hooks to hang garbage bags, there is a drawer underneath the passenger seat, there is a ton of cargo space in the back, the kids have fun being able to stand up in the car, there are cup holders on the sides of their seats...and a whole lot more. Last the best of all the game....the DOORS OPEN with the push of a button on the keys. MY FAVORITE FEATURE. I can't even tell you how amazing it is to just push a button and the sliding doors open and the kids just run and get in. It's soooo epic! Also, to buckle in Chloe I can just stand up straight and buckle her in. None of this bending down business.
I'm a believer. The minivan got me. I'm so glad I swallowed my pride. Convenience is sooo much better than looking cool. Plus, who cares what anyone thinks? I'm a minivan mom and I'm proud of it! Don't be afraid to let your guard down if there's something holding you back in life. Just remember, nobody really cares. Your worth is the same no matter what you do, drive, say, or look like.
Life is good.
